How Chatingly works, from prompt to hello.

Chatingly runs at chatingly.online in Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox or any up-to-date browser, whether on a phone or a desktop. Guests can go straight to matching. If you plan to come back often, pin Chatingly to your home screen and launch it from an icon.

Nothing stands between you and the first match: no account, no form. You arrive, you see the start controls, and that is the entire front door. Signing in can wait until you have decided Chatingly is worth keeping, and when you do sign in it is mostly about keeping things tidy: your coin balance, VIP status and preferences follow you from the phone in your hand to the laptop on your desk.

Above the start button you choose how the next match will run. Video shows your camera, voice sends only audio, and text keeps everything typed. The choice applies to the match you are about to start, so you can change it every round.

Each mode suits a different kind of night. Text is quiet and works when others are asleep in the next room. Voice lets you talk with the lights off and your face nobody’s business. Video is the classic version, where a smile or a raised eyebrow does half the talking. Plenty of people move through all three in one sitting.

• Video: camera and microphone on, the fullest version of a match.
• Voice: microphone only, so the other person hears you but never sees you.
• Text: keyboard only, nothing shared except what you type.

For video or voice, your browser asks permission to use the camera, the microphone or both. Allow it once and it is remembered for Chatingly. If you tapped block by accident, the help center shows how to undo it on each type of device.

The prompt comes from your browser, not from Chatingly, which is why it looks slightly different in Safari than in Chrome. Nothing is switched on before you agree. If the preview stays black after you allow access, another app is usually holding the camera; close video calls elsewhere, reload the page and try once more.

Chatingly pairs you with one person who is also looking for a match. Their card shows the nickname they chose, their age, the country they are in, their language and their level. From there it is a normal conversation: talk, type, use the translate button on any message, or press next to move on.

Nobody else joins, and nobody watches from the side. Nobody sets a timer; the conversation ends when either of you has had enough. A good opener is anything drawn from the card itself: the country, the language, what time the clock says in their city. Questions travel further than statements, and a joke about the time of night rarely falls flat.

• Next ends the match immediately and finds somebody new.
• Report flags the session for a moderator; hit next afterwards if you like.
• Follow someone from their profile if you want to message them later.

Random matching means the other person may not share your first language. Every typed message carries a translate button that turns it into yours, in random matches, private calls and live rooms alike. Tap it on their line, read the meaning, and reply however you like; they can do the same with yours.

Many people use the button as a quiet language lesson. Read the original first, guess, then check the translation. After a few evenings, the phrases that keep coming up start to stick.

New members start with free matches. Above the start controls you will see the Reward Center: when its countdown ends, tap to claim free matches or coins, and the next countdown begins from your claim. You can collect several times a day and nothing resets if you stay away. Everything that is and is not free is spelled out in the Chatingly free guide.

When the free matches run out, matching continues with coins. If your balance is too low at that point, you are asked to top up first rather than being charged in the background. Members with VIP see member pricing on the coin packs and carry a VIP badge they can hide if they prefer to stay low-key.

Once you know your way around, there is more to Chatingly than the start button. The online list shows people who are around now, and any of them can be rung on a private video call paid in coins. The Live tab gathers rooms people are streaming, where you can talk in the chat, gift, or request a private call. Signing in keeps your balance and settings on every device.

In the Live tab, a vertical swipe carries you from one room to the next. Every room keeps its own typed chat with the same translate button, gifts you can send (some rooms hand out a free one now and then) and a prize wheel. Now and then a room has a condition on its door, such as a ticket, a follow first, or an account that has bought coins before. Any gift that costs coins asks you to confirm before it goes.

Random chat is built around goodbyes, but not every goodbye has to be final. Open the other person’s profile during or after the match and follow them. Their name then turns up among the people you follow, and you can send a message whenever you like, or check the online list to see if they are around for a private call.

Messages stay inside Chatingly, which is the safest place for them. Swapping phone numbers or social handles with someone you met an hour ago is your call to make, but there is no rush, and keeping the chat here means the report button stays within reach.
